Curling on TV: Revamped 2013 Skins

If you're suffering from Continental Cup hangover, don't fret - there's more curling on tv this weekend!

It's time for "The Dominion All-Star Curling Skins Game". Quite a mouthful. It will run Saturday Jan. 19 to Sunday Jan. 20 at Casino Rama in Ontario. What's different this year is the way the teams were selected - the public voted on individual players for each position.

Here's who you voted for:

Skips: Kevin Martin, Kevin Koe, Jeff Stoughton, Glenn Howard

Thirds: John Morris, Pat Simmons, Jon Mead, B.J. Neufeld

Seconds: March Kennedy, Carter Ryroft, Reid Carruthers, Brent Laing

Leads: Ben Hebert, Nolan Thiessen, Steve Gould, Craig Savill

Besides B.J. Neufeld at third (Wayne Middaugh had to withdraw) and Steve Gould at lead (yeah that wont be awkward) it's the usual suspects. So really, what was the point of the vote?

What will make it exciting is that the skips will draw names to form a team - which could make for some awesome good fun. Hopefully.

Here's the TSN schedule (all times Eastern):

Thursday Jan. 17 - 7:30pm - Draw for teams

Saturday Jan. 19 - 1:00pm - Semi

Saturday Jan. 19 - 8:00pm - Semi

Sunday Jan. 20 - 1:00pm - Final

(This is where I admit I probably wont watch any of the games beyond the draw on Thursday - I'm helping out with the Alberta Wheelchair Provincial Curling Championship weekend, plus I'm not a huge skins fan. I'm thinking I'll be saving the games for some PVR viewing in the summer!)
